HYPERLOOP | Ultimate technology to travel faster than an airplane.

Hyperloop capsule

With Hyperloop you can travel 100 km in 5 minutes. Hyperloop will be the fastest way to travel across the earth surface. Hyperloop technology is about to revolutionize the field of transportation.

This futuristic technology can make traveling of couple of hours in a matter of minutes. To travel faster we have already developed many vehicle projects and infrastructure like airplanes but as always said “there is always a room for everything” a new concept has emerged named Hyperloop which promises to give us a maximum speed of traveling.

This is not a fiction theory or imagination movie concept but is about to be implemented in many countries by different private organizations. One of the company is the “Virgin Hyperloop One” which is working hard on this concept to implement it successfully for the welfare of the society.

This revolutionary concept was first introduced in 2012 by CEO of SpaceX and product architect of Tesla Inc. Mr. Elon Musk. This super high-speed transportation system receives passenger capsules pass through a partial vacuum environment in steel tubes.

There are mainly two components famous to decrease the speed of any vehicle which is AIR resistance and FRICTION. The first Hyperloop version introduced by Elon Musk contain compression fans which will move air around the passenger capsules to minimize drag and create air cushion beneath capsules. But as Elon Musk has announced this technology as an open source concept this technology is modified in a new efficient way.

Hyperloop Capsule design

The new Hyperloop transportation system is designed in such a way that it will travel the passenger capsules in a low pressurized tube and to overcome friction it is designed to use magnets for levitating the passenger capsule and for pushing capsule in low pressurized tubes. It is impossible to create an ideal vacuum environment at a large scale thus for creating low pressurized tubes pistons are used to extract air from the tube and decrease the air pressure inside the tube compare to outside space.

Hyperloop magnet

This impressive idea of transportation which has the potential to link cities has encouraged the crowd to come together to make the necessary technology to be a part of this evolution.

This lead to the production of several prototypes of Hyperloop. As this is one of the costliest technology which requires initial funding estimated approximately 6 -7.5 billion USD, many fully established companies are trying to bring Hyperloop systems to reality. Virgin Hyperloop One company is on track to achieve this system for common people and has made a massive improvement in this concept.

The magnetic concept of levitation is already in use by many maglev trains around the world, but they are not able to match a speed of 1220 km per hour. One of the convenient modes of transportation is trains but we have not achieved that much speed to travel.

Hyperloop Capsule Design

To achieve a speed of about 1200km/hour, Hyperloop uses linear motors to maximize the speed in a low-pressure environment. Linear motors, unlike traditional motors, doesn’t have the structure of inner and outer shells, this uses a concept to fix a linear stator on the bottom of the linear and rotor on the floating passenger capsule. To deaccelerate the speed of capsule the electric field rotation on the stator will change in opposite direction.

Unlike the concept of trains, they require less land covering the area to make this project live. This only requires pillars fixed apart from each other which will support the steel tubes above the ground. Let’s see some of the pros and cons which are estimated with this Hyperloop concept: -

Pros: -

Traveling for business and job is really time-consuming and stressful as well, instead of this if the Hyperloop develops to solve the traveling problem around the cities this will change the trend of traveling.
For those people who live far from their families and their hometowns, it is difficult to travel
every day. Then for this situation, Hyperloop is perfect only when the cost of traveling will be affordable. This has the potential to make everyone’s life easy.

         Cons: -

As we all know that every coin has two sides, and this is applicable to this project also. With this wonderful idea, some of the major concerns of people come that will it is safe to travel with a speed of 1220km/hour in a chamber.
Will it affect the human body functioning when the train will reach the maximum speed and when the train deaccelerates to stop?
One of the major problem with this project is the situation when the tube will have to handle a natural disaster like earthquake or landslides.

Conclusion: -

After looking at the advantages and disadvantages of this project we can conclude that this is a very futuristic project, but it needs some advancement regarding weather protection and disaster management.

Companies like Virgin Hyperloop One developed a system which is protected from weather and can work in any implementing conditions it can be the best idea which will revolutionize the world.

Even Virgin Hyperloop One has implemented this concept with all characteristics like levitation, breaking, accelerating, decelerating, vacuum systems working well company have achieved the top speed of 240 miles/hour.

Implementations: -

For a fully operational Hyperloop network that is affordable for everyone, Virgin Hyperloop One has finalized 35 potential locations to implement ideas.

In India, Hyperloop project is running on the route of Mumbai to Chennai and Bengaluru to Chennai.

So, what do you think about this technology and their effects on the real life of common people? Let me know in the comment section below your thoughts on this concept.
